Morning Tonic

IMG_3031 This has been my Morning Tonic for the past month while I have been reducing my caffeine intake. It gives you the little boost you need to get going without having to worry about your energy levels plummeting later in the day.

Ingredients:

  • Juice of 1/2 large lemon
  • 2 cm knob ginger sliced
  • 2 cm knob turmeric sliced
  • 1 1/2  cups water

*Use organic ingredients and filtered water for optimal nutritional benefits.

Directions: In a small saucepan on the stove bring ginger, turmeric and water to the boil. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Place the lemon juice in a cup and add the ginger/turmeric mix. If you have limited time in the mornings you can make a large batch of ginger/turmeric mix on the weekend and store it in the fridge. Then all you have to do in the morning is add some to lemon juice and pour in a little hot water to warm it up.

This tonic is packed full of antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory and alkalising properties while also stimulating digestion and decongesting the liver. You can read about the benefit of turmeric, ginger and lemon here, here and here. I have this on a empty stomach first thing in the morning before I exercise. There is no sweetner added as I don’t want to spike my blood glucose levels first thing in the morning.

Enjoy X
