This has been my Morning Tonic for the past month while I have been reducing my caffeine intake. It gives you the little boost you need to get going without having to worry about your energy levels plummeting later in the day.
- Juice of 1/2 large lemon
- 2 cm knob ginger sliced
- 2 cm knob turmeric sliced
- 1 1/2 cups water
*Use organic ingredients and filtered water for optimal nutritional benefits.
Directions: In a small saucepan on the stove bring ginger, turmeric and water to the boil. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Place the lemon juice in a cup and add the ginger/turmeric mix. If you have limited time in the mornings you can make a large batch of ginger/turmeric mix on the weekend and store it in the fridge. Then all you have to do in the morning is add some to lemon juice and pour in a little hot water to warm it up.
This tonic is packed full of antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory and alkalising properties while also stimulating digestion and decongesting the liver. You can read about the benefit of turmeric, ginger and lemon here, here and here. I have this on a empty stomach first thing in the morning before I exercise. There is no sweetner added as I don’t want to spike my blood glucose levels first thing in the morning.
